Can You See What I See?

Sometimes I wonder how he can see through those long, luscious lashes...

School Stuff...

Some random things we've been doing around here.

Math: getting ready for multiplication...

Language: He's been getting his b's and d's backwards lately. This seems to be helping...

The Crazies...

I had these grand ideas of capturing some fun pics of the kids. Of course it didn't go as planned. They were already wound up and crazy for the night. I tried to get them one at a time and that didn't happen either. But at least I got one cute shot of my cute boy...

And this was not what I was going for but I love it... *brotherly love*

Most of the shots were along these lines...

So I decided to just go with it...

Still not sure why Joshua only has one sock on. But that is so him. He's our one-sock wonder.

More Snow...

That is a lot for our area. We don't usually have a lot of snow so we don't invest in big snow equipment like those further North. When we do have snowy winters, we have lots of snow days where we cuddle up at home. Homeschooling is great because we don't get too far behind!

A view from the window last night...

Finally...

The Fowler Family has finally joined the Kindle Family...

Now my dad can stop telling me he's leaving me one in his will. And my brother can stop trying to convince me I need one. No, really, David, I wasn't lying when I told you we got one. All those texts and emails after the fact had no impact. You can stop now, I was convinced when I bought it. Before your last 5 texts and three emails... Really. Promise. :)

I love to read and thought I wouldn't like that it wasn't a 'book'. You book lovers know what I'm talking about... the feel of the crisp pages in your fingers... the weight of the hundreds of pages propped in your hands... that book smell...

Ahhh...

John was especially thrilled with the idea that you can highlight and then pull just your highlighted stuff onto your computer and print it up for easy access. I'm pretty sure his secretary will be highly pleased as well! Although, she was getting good Cliff notes from typing up his notes. I think she'll miss that light reading she got paid to do! haha

So with John's enthusiasm I agreed to go for it. And I have to say, I'm loving it! It looks like pages of a book, not backlit like an iPad. Awesome on the eyes and makes it more like a 'real' book. And on these snowy days where I don't feel like going out and could use a new book to cuddle up with - perfect! Just browse and pick out a book and within a minute I've got the entire novel in my hands. Awesome. Easy to pack around too. Book prices are much cheaper as well.

Awesome.

Wish I were getting paid for this post! :)

P.S. I already messed up with this blog, didn't I? I posted the Macro Monday on Tuesday. Go me.

Flowery Things...

Sometimes I prepare some blog posts ahead of time. Sometimes things come up that I want to blog about and those prepared posts get bumped back further and further. This is one that I can't believe I didn't post! This was from 2010 sometime! Like November! It's when I first got my hands on a macro lens. This doesn't seem like much since I've gotten a better feel for the lens but still thought I'd share! :)

.......

I was shooting some flowers that a lovely friend had given me and Joshua stopped by to smell the roses...

Yes, I was playing with the macro lens again...

I {heart} daisies...

Pull back shot of what I was on the floor with...

They say talking to your plants is good for them. Maybe Joshua wanted to read to them. :)

Self Portrait...

It's not easy for me to take pictures of myself. Physically difficult? Eh. I'm talking about emotionally/mentally difficult. Why do women always feel so fat and ugly? And why do guys get to select their waist size and seam length but women have to feel dumb for not fitting into the mold of one size range fits most? We are built just as differently as men and we shop more often than men, so why are their clothes more custom made to fit right? The world has created an image of beauty that is rare and unhealthy. We know this yet we still attempt to fit that mold and feel defeated when we do not. Look for the beauty in yourself today and I'll try my best to do the same.

Time...

Jeremiah would be finished with his school work much faster if he didn't feel the need to apply artwork to each worksheet...

Winter Hat...

My mom saw this hat in a store and said Jey *HAD* to have it! It was the only one they had left and she was disappointed she couldn't get Joshua one to match. But at least Jey got one because he LOVES this hat so much!

He tried it on for me to take some pics for his Halmoni. Oh, that sweet little face...

And his "tough guy" posing he does on his own...

It snowed last week but it disappeared over the weekend. I had a photo challenge where the theme was "Winter Wonderland" but no snow! Just lots of rain. Pooey. Had to think of something, right? (I love a good challenge!) So I bundled up Jey by promising him he could make a big mess. I couldn't do this outside because it was too wet and rainy but I really like the lighting, kinda dramatic. I filled his mittens with salt (I wanted epsom salt but didn't have any handy - who does?) and told him he could throw it up in the air. It gave a nice snowy look to his hat! So I thought this salt thing might work. I gave him another handful and told him to try to blow it out of his hands. He thought this whole thing was hilarious! Here is the shot I entered in the challenge (not a contest so don't ask me if I won! lol)...

Yeah, it's salt. But the tiny-ness of it kinda gives a little magical feel, doesn't it? Here is another shot from that 5 minute session...

I think I actually like the second one better but the challenge had to include a face and I wasn't sure if this one was enough face. Here is the B&W version...

And before we got started, I had to capture a few of just his sweet face bundled up in his new fave hat...

Couldn't decided if I liked it better in color or B&W, what do you think?

{Mommy Moment}
He had so much fun and got carried away and at one point he thought he'd be cleverly silly and surprise me by throwing his handful AT me. I was so mad! Not because I felt a handful of salt in my hair and ears and down my shirt and in my pockets... (I was finding salt all day and night!). I probably would have laughed and threw some back but my camera was in between the two of us when this happened and it costs enough to make me a not-so-happy camper at that moment! YIKES. Thankfully, it didn't do any damage and I was able to blow the salt away from the delicate parts and get it all cleaned up. *WHEW* I almost had a heart attack when I saw all that salt flying! My own fault for letting a 6 year old play with salt. Well, that and telling him that he could throw it around. Go me.

Here are a couple outtakes for those that think everything I do goes so smoothly and perfectly with not fuss/mess... whatever.

Here he is throwing salt at me...

And here is the after math (and his bottom half)...

Yes, he's in his jammies. And yes, it took me a while to get all the salt up. And where in the world is he? In my garage, of course! Don't you have nasty, fake brick-looking linoleum in your garage? I think some previous owners used it as a den or something once upon a time and they glued it down with something that we've not been able to pull up yet. So there are still scraps of it left in the garage. Isn't that silly? There is one window in the garage and I love the lighting it gives! It was kinda gloomy out so I had to enhance it with my flash. I just aimed my flash at the window so the light would bounce back as if it were coming from the window. So there you go, a secret tip for you for free. Leave a comment, you stalkers! :)

This House on Thursday...

I was up late in my office editing or something when Jeremiah comes in asking me to play a game with him. I thought John put him to bed a long time ago so I was a bit surprised to see him. As I shooed him back down the hall to get him in bed, he kept telling me that he needed me to finish the game because the pilot fell asleep.

What? Who?

Well, what do you know? The pilot DID fall asleep...

I got so tickled when I walked into the room and found this I had to go and get my camera. I love the imaginary mind of a 6 year old!

Guess old man pilot couldn't keep up with the late night of cards...

Jey recently discovered this game and was instantly hooked!

Love you, crazy boy!

Was That Real?

This post is exclusively for Ms. Jennifer. She refused to believe that the previous snowflake shot (posted HERE) was real. So as I was shooting more snowflakes another day, I made a point to include some pull back shots that might help her see I'm not a liar...

This time I took the glass from a picture frame and stood it upright (with the help of some clamps I had handy). I held the glass out to catch some snow then set the glass where I could more easily shoot the tiny flakes. I then attached my ruler (you can tell it's mine since Joshua drew on it) strategically so Ms. Jennifer could see the flake in reference to the size of the ruler (notice it's MM not INCHES)...

Getting closer...

See?

Not the prettiest snowflake I shot that day but it works for this!

And there you have your science lesson of the day. Snowflakes REALLY do look like that in real life.

(Love you, Ms Jennifer!)

Abandoned...

I am trying out a couple photo challenges to get some creative juices flowing. This is one for the theme "Abandoned". How'd I do?

I am also trying out some other weekly challenges. Not sure which ones I'll stick with, I'm still in the shopping around stage of it all. A tough one that I haven't committed to completely yet is a weekly self-portrait challenge. Not easy considering the subject! Hopefully, I'll get better as time goes on. But I'm figuring that if I can eventually make *me* look good then I will have accomplished a mighty feat in my photography!

What else is going on in my blog world? Oh, yeah... I love it when a blog gives you something to look forward to so I'm going to try really really REALLY hard to stick to a couple weekly themes on this blog. So look forward to a MACRO MONDAY where I'll whip out my new Macro lens and have a whirl. And I'm also planning a THIS HOUSE THURSDAY where I'll post something about the life and times of what goes on around my home life. This should pacify my mom for a bit. I hope. I don't plan on having a theme for every day of the week, I want to keep things a little more flexible in case I feel like posting some client work or other randomness. Is that ok?

So, now your job is to just stop by now and then to share your thoughts! I hope you find something here that makes you think, feel, or at least smile.

If You Give A Mouse A Cookie...

... he'll probably come back and swipe the entire package to inhale secretly in his room while you were not looking...

Yup. Daddy opened the package for the first time and gave him the first cookie. A couple hours later I found him in his room like this and only a few cookies remaining. His brother tattled on him. But only after he indulged himself as well.

Stinkers.

Six...

Jeremiah,

What can I say about you at age 6? You are a Sweet Soul. A Thinker. A Dreamer. Lover of all things LEGO and I SPY. You are a Seeker. A Lover. A Fighter. An Entertainer. An Artist.
So much more...

All that you are, I love.

I love you.

I Am Beautiful...

I don't feel beautiful. I don't see beautiful. But I know that I am fearfully and wonderfully made by my Heavenly Father. And that makes me especially beautiful.

The title was really REALLY hard to type. Not only do I feel so vain typing that out, I feel like a liar. But when I read about my Heavenly Father's love for me, I can't help but to feel beautiful in His eyes. The world may not see me that way, and I may not see me that way. But just because I don't believe it, doesn't make it not true, right? Just like God. You can not believe all you want but that doesn't mean He isn't there. He's awesome like that.

So, today.

Today is the day you celebrate YOUR beauty. Beauty is all around you, just look! The best place to find beauty is in your mirror. A reflection of a person who may have been through a lot, may have been told they were ugly or stupid, may have been treated like they were worthless... but look deeper. Look deep into the eyes of that person. That beautiful child of God. Tell that child she's beautiful. Tell that child he's worthy. Celebrate the beauty today and every day.

I am beautiful. And so are YOU.

Ashley & Corey: Married! {Owensboro, KY Wedding Photographer}

I am so blessed! I love love love to shoot weddings! And to get to shoot them with the uber fabulous JESSICA BELL of Jasper, IN makes me especially blessed! Go Team J!

This time it was her wedding in Loogootee, IN. Her brides are just as gorgeous as mine - we are so lucky! It's always fun being a second shooter. You get to shoot from an entirely different perspective than a main shooter, its a nice change! Jess is so amazing and after all these years working together, we seem to read each other's mind while we work. Awesome!

I had a bazillion images I wanted to share but I narrowed it down to 30+ (haha) so I put them in a slideshow and will post just a few of them here. Enjoy!

Beautiful Bride:

Her bouquet... I love it when they incorporate something meaningful, like her Mother's Rosary...

Reading the card from her groom...

She has the best laugh! Such a fun-loving bride...

The groom walked both mothers down the aisle...

Married!

Congratulations, Corey & Ashley!
