This House on Thursday...

This has been going on quite a bit around here lately...

This House Thursday: Homeschool Field Trip...

One day Joshua said he wanted to be a fireman.  So, being the good mommy, I arranged a homeschool field trip to the fire station.  That morning Joshua said he didn't want to go. lol

We went anyway and he was so excited to see a fire rescue boat and see the big ladder truck pull out, sirens blaring, on it's way to a call.  He didn't want to leave my side (he was practically in my pocket!) so I took pics of other kids for their moms and to document our outing.  When the others filed out to continue the tour, Joshua let me snag a pic of him by the fire truck.  Since the crowd was gone, he even let the fire fighter put him on the truck and pose for a pic with him.  Even though he didn't smile for my camera, inside he was beaming!

This House on Thursday...

Joshua and I went on a little outing the other day.  It's so fun to see what he wants to shoot and watch him in action.  He's so cute, too!

After capturing him, I turned to capture his subject...

But I admit, I like his shot much better...

He enjoyed all the neighbors' statues!  He found several on our short jaunt around the block...

I like how the branches point up toward the flag...

This one of his is super fun to me with the bright trail going in the opposite direction...

His view of me while I was shooting him...

This House on Thursday: Handy Man...

Joshua decided he wanted to build things.  We picked up a kit for him and daddy added a mini tool box complete with a mini hammer.  My little guy was thrilled!  He dug out an old vest, a hard hat and a pair of goggles to complete the part.  Love my adorable little Roo!

This House on Thursday: Happy Homeschooler...

Not every day in the homeschool life is peachy and rosy.  We have our "moments" because we are all human beings.  Sometimes we have an "off" day.  Sometimes we are hungry or tired or bored... Sometimes the biggest lesson to learn that day is that even though it's not what I want to do, it's what I need to do.  And sometimes we fail to learn the simplest of things.  But then there are "those" moments.  The ones where you catch a glimpse of payoff for all the hard work and patience tried.

This was one of those days.  I found Joshua hanging out in the living room reviewing his multiplication facts by his own choosing.  He was humming and reciting and genuinely having a really good time!  One of my goals in teaching my children is that they learn to love learning.  Some subjects are easier to love than others so it's so wonderful to see him enjoying learning one of the not-as fun subjects (according to him!).

This House on Thursday: Feeling Puny...

Yesterday turned out to be kind of a dreary day for us.  Joshua woke up very early not feeling good.  He never actually "got sick" but has definitely felt puny all day.  So much that the little tornado had to take a nap...

Let's just hope this nap brings him back to life soon.

Meanwhile, Jeremiah decided to give him a little peace and quiet so he retreated to a little corner of my office to curl up with some puzzles...

Whew, that is some horrible lighting in my office. I think I need to find a lamp...

This House Thursday...

Jeremiah started taking piano lessons this past fall.  He is doing very well and he's really enjoying it!
We are so grateful to find this piano for him...

{Mommy Moment}
Joshua is pretty excited about a piano in the house as well.  He asked if he could have a lesson and he was pretty good!  Jeremiah grew tired of his little brother playing the same 2 pages over and over so he took it upon himself to teach him a little more.  Sweet big brother!

This House on Thursdays: Things I Wash...

Oh, the Joys of little Boys...
And their pockets full of little Toys...

Found in my washer...

I've found MUCH worse in there so I'm not complaining one bit!
{love my Joshua}

Since I'm posting quite a bit of family stuff these days, I think I'll phase out the official "This House On Thursdays".  It's not just on Thursdays that I'm posting stuff going on around here so just stop by anytime and enjoy a peek into our craziness we call life! :)

xoxo

This House On Thursday: The Fowlers...

For years I've wanted an image of myself with the boys like this but have been too busy or exhausted to accomplish it!  I finally attempted this summer...

It was a surprise for John as part of his Father's Day gift.  When he came home that afternoon, we took advantage of the set up to snap this one as well...

I love my family!

This House On Thursdays: Four Year Old Science Documentation...

This cracks me up every time I look at it!

The science project was about Pollution.  The procedure was to take one drop of red food coloring and put it in a large jar with just 1/2 cup of water.  Then we slowly added more and more water and watched it dilute the red water so that the red was almost invisible.

Since Joshua's class can't read or write, his tutor used this form to help them document the science experiment...

From what I can gather...

The purpose was to show that horses fly when a female platypus eats a hamburger.

Materials consist of a Mario Bros. hand puppet, a pitcher of dark liquid, a pin, a hot dog (?), and a screaming person.

The procedure appears to be that the dropper drops some coloring onto the hat of a very happy fellow, causing a hot dog to lay down, and then the teacher in the funny hat smiles really big.

Conclusion?  If you're happy and you know it, you're a hippy pirate.

{Mommy Moment}
Joshua is in the same class as his little cousin (3rd or 4th?), Susie, and they sit right next to each other.  She is super adorable and has long, curly hair - something Joshua is not used to seeing!  His mommy told me that he is fascinated with her hair and conducts his own science experiments during class.  When Susie is not looking, he'll reach over and stick his finger in her hair and gently pull it straight only to find that when he lets go, it bounces back to curls! Apparently, he cannot figure out this phenomenon.  Stinkin' adorable!

Love at 8...

I was told Jeremiah was caught hugging a little girl at church. He also kissed her on the cheek and told her he loved her. Later, daddy asked him if he had a girlfriend. He said he had three. (!!!) We told him that you're only allowed to have one at a time and his expression changed to say "Hmmm, I have a problem!" It was cute but I'm not sure how I feel about girlfriends at this age! Especially kissing!

He's definitely a lover. If you like cuddly, he's your man. If you like to play Mario Kart, he might marry you...

Meanwhile, Joshua is my kid who gets excited about running around with his friends and feels the urge to smack me on the bottom.

Conclusion: I have a lover and a fighter. :)

Caught...

I love it when he gets "caught" reading somewhere random. Like in the hall, using the bathroom light when he's brother is taking a bath. :)

This House on Thursday: Mario Bros.

You can't tell me this isn't the cutest little plumber you've ever seen...

These boys can't get enough of the Mario Bros...

Joshua bounded out of the house after dressing himself (down to finding some brown shoes!). Love his imagination!
